Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • First post and needing some buying advice for my first Tiguan!

Hi I hope this is the right place to post my first newbie intro

I am moving to Australia via Los Angeles and am hoping to get my first VW this weekend. My hubby is already there and he can go and pick up the car, but the big question is, how do i get the lowest possible price from a dealer? I heard about carbroker.com, are they worth trying? I found a car that I want, and would love to get your opinion regarding what you think the best price for it should be (within reason).

    Specs:

    Tiguan 2010/11 147tsi

options that come with the car:

    metallic paint 800
    leather 3700
    blue tooth 550
    media device 360
    sun roof 2000
    dealer delivery $2995

the dealer told me that the base price for this is $42990

    This is before tax...

The price he gave me is $50,900. I told him for sure I want to stay under 50k, but how much under?

    Please help!!!

    Thanks so much in advance.

NEVER, ever, ever pay the Dealer Delivery! In fact... I make it a rule to never pay the onroad's that they list. They make enough money in the car to cover these.

I might be wrong... but I think this car is about to be face lifted. So... if you are happy to take the old model (and you can find one in your Spec that you want) I think you should be able to get a good price... definitely under $50,000!

Hi Chopper, thanks for responding- i am definitely going to talk to them about paying less than 50k. The question is how much less???? I don't want to be unreasonable..but yes for sure I think there's room. Just wondering if people can guide me a little here.

Thanks and others, please chime in!

when we bought our golf, we didn't bother to listen what price the sales was telling us, we just told her how much we will pay. deal or no deal!

it's funny how often their replies will be along the line "hmmm... let me speak to my manager"! and usually they will try to come back maybe meet half way... I'm sure if you stand your ground for a bit more, or simply put, "If you can do me that price, I can sign right away".

Sorry surfegirl, but there is a thread in Tiguan section and you posted there, so please don't start another thread in the newbie section, which is only for introducing yourself and that's it, all your qouestions after that must be posted in the appropriate forums.

So, please continue the conversation in http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...tml#post690319
