Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC New Mk1 Golf owner

Hi there the name is Tony

I have been reasearching throught the forum for tha last couple of months and its been a great help and very informative.

I have grown up in a car club oriented family deep seeded in the fiat car club of victoria with dad draging the family to sprints motorcanas hill climbs and interstate events.

Growing up in the fiat car club its got to the point where i wanted to try somthing new and I had always fancied the golf range and Volkswagen seemed to have a large following here in Australia and still had that euro feel.

So in the past 6 months I have been going through the tough decision what golf? started at VR6 Mk2 gti but in the end I went for the original.

Two weeks ago aquired a 1977 Mk1 Golf
    3 door
    Orange
with side skirts and wheel arch flares
1600 cc engine which has been played with, mild cam, higher comprsion pistons and a single dcoe 40 side draft weber
5 Speed box - I think its a mk2 box but not sure
GTI grill and what steering wheel
    15 x 6.5 wheels
    upgraded brakes

All in all im absoutly stoked

The car has spent the last two years in a garage so there are some bugs that will need to be iorned out.

And there a few bushes that need to be replaced and other odds and ends

but other than that it runs like a beast

I have reached the stage were i am now the dad and I still own 5 Fiats - but its time to start a new chapter with a Volkswagen

Thanks for all your help and information and I hope to meet some of the victorain members soon.

    Cheers

Thanks guys I apreciate the replys it was nice to get some intrest as a first time postr.

As for a good car, yes it has some good point but it will need some work

At this stage i only have the photos from the second inspection of the vehicle with it tucked away in the garage covered in a layer of dust but I knew at that stage it was for me.

Im a bit of an internet retard and i just read the how to upload photos post thingi so lets see how I go

I don't know this car - I call it as the 'Barn Find' of the year though with the BBS rear spoiler, and the bodykit. Those rims are trick and a sweet Wolfsberg wheel is a winner (ditch the white dash dials but).

I'm excited to see where this heads.

Start a thread in the MK1 section.
