Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC Mk6 GT Owner

    Hey Guys,

Some of guys might know me as 'ikprojekt' from VWGolf.net.au. I have decided to start using VWWatercooled because I find this forum to be very informative. Anyway I'll introduce my self.

    ,

My name is Kerem and I have a Mk6 Golf 118TSI DSG. By the way yes I do know it's not known as a GT in Australia but in Europe its known to be a GT - . Previous car was also a MkV Golf so have been a Golf enthusiast for some time now. I have a hugh list of mods that I'm planning of installing. However I've been having a lot of thoughts on the ECU that I want to get and I'm very indecisive of either getting a kraftwerk, apr or bluefin ECU.

    Kerem's Mk6GT Mods List

    ENGINE PARTS
    - Kraftwerk ECU or BlueFin & DeanCorp+ thinks I should get a Custom Tune
    - VF Engineering or GruppeM Air Intake
    - New Fuel PUMP with AWE VENT BOOST gauge
    - 3" FULLY CUSTOM MADE SPORT Exhaust with DOWNPIPE - INSTALLED
    - HPA DSG UPDATE

    SUSPENSION, TYRES AND BRAKES
    - Eibach Performance Sway Bars
    - Eibach Sportline Sport Performance Spring - INSTALLED
    - Brembo Stage II Front Brakes with Black Callipers or Slotted Rotors by Mov'IT
    - Nitto NT 05 225
    - ADVANS RSD MATT BLACK

    EXTERIOR PARTS
    - ECS Tuning MK6 Fog Lights - PURCHASED AND WAITING TO BE DELIVERED
    - Gold R LED Back Lights
    - Golf R Bi-Xenon Lights
    - Drug Dealer Glass Tint
    - Rear Spolier by VW

    INTERIOR PARTS
    - Golf R steering wheel with DSG paddles
    - Recaro Sport Seats - maybe
    - RNS 510 - PURCHASED WAITING FOR SPEAKERS AND INSTALLATION
    - Carbon Trim

For my RNS510 I've been doing a lot research of what speakers to get and a mate of mine who is a freak in audio products and an installer suggested some really good products. I'm looking at a Morel Ultimo 10" x2 sub, dynaudio esotec system 242 or 242 GT, digital design 12" 1500 series x1 (lol that would blow my windows). And also a rockford or digital design amp.
    Cheers,

PS Soz If I posted the mods in the wrong area, just introducing myself!

I would get some dampers to match the Eibach springs - lower and stiffer springs don't work well with the standard dampers except on smooth roads and will cause the dampers to wear faster than normal.
Also look into an LSD to go along with the brakes/tune/suspension/tyres.

Don't go nuts with the audio side of things - it's money down the drain. For a car the size of the Golf, a single 10" sub in a decent sealed enclosure with a 100W RMS amp (mono output for a bridged stereo) will provide more than enough bass or a 12" sub if you're a bass freak. The trickiest part is the lack of bass management with the RNS-510. You will need to filter the bass from the speaker signals - a 400microFarad capacitor in series with each channel does a pretty good job.

I have to ask why didn't you just get a GTi?

          Hey mate,

Yeah your right mate 12" will defiantly be way-too over the top. My mates Ford Territory has 6x 10" Moral Subs and he put on XZIBIT and my hair stood up and I had a 30 min headache. So I could imagine what more then 10" 2x or a 12" sub would do. It will just blow my doors off. Regarding about the dampers I'm looking into that, but will get them installed later after I get some engine parts and pulling good kW's.

About the GTI question I didn't want to spend more then 50K. I even put down a deposit for a BLK GTI DSG, but then decided that I'll just get a 118TSI and then use the remaining money to fully modify an intensive 118TSI. I'll eventually get the same specs as a tuned GTI.

Got to say my 8" Boston sub is amazing for SQ in the small Golf space, and didn't alter the boot space at all, dead flat side panel. A 10" with a good headroom amp would be plenty!

Stoked to see some new people tweaking their cars, welcome to the tinker club!

Nice to have one of the hottest 118TSI's around; bit diff to the GTI's you see everywhere that's for sure.

Feel free to try out our 155kw 118TSI tune and compare to the APR; you may be pleasantly surprised. 14 day money back offer on all our tunes and we don't lock your ECU, and return it to stock after as well. Email me if interested, cheers.
