Problem with Polo

Hello, i'm new to this site.. My 2006 TDI Polo is having a problem with the ventilation system. The light for recycling air keeps coming on all the time. Had the local VW people have a look and they want about $500 to fix problem! Has anyone had a similar problem or knows where I can get a repacement for the part which controls the ventilation? Can anyone can recommend a mechanic or auto electrician on the Sunshine Coast who might be able to help?

When the light comes on is the recirc system actually engaging or is it just the light randomly coming on.
