hey guys i have a 1990 mk2 golf 1.8 8v and was concidering bolting on a turbo just wondering how involved this would be on this engine????

Easiest way to do it, imo.
There was a factory engine, 8V supercharged "G60". It's ECU runs the same 'software' that the aussie delivered mk 2's have. (digifant)
Get an ECU from overseas, turbo manifolds aren't hard to find in the US. Run G60 or other upgraded injectors. It's a bit old tech, but I'm still pretty sure you can get G60 ECU's chipped. Having said that, it's still leaving out quite a lot of detail, so you'll need to do more research if you're seriously contemplating that.
The other option would be to run standnalone ECU. & do everything "aftermarket"
