Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Fixing new number plates to the TIGUAN.

    Hi guys,
Any help or guidance to fitting new rego plates. I see the car manual has a pic of "front number plate carrier" (and rear). Do they usually arrive with the car ? If so I will have to chase it up as I was not given any. There are 2 threaded screw holes for the rear, should be no problem, but the front has only plastic "bumper" bar. Thanks in advance.
This has probably been covered before.

Why would you want the numberplate holder?
If your car doesn't have it, then awesome! There are 50 page threads in the other sub-forums on methods of removing it for all the cars which came with it from stock.
For example, in QLD, the plates cost $595 for the Euro that fit the holder properly. If you don't have the holder, then you can attach any plates you want and you'll be fine!

Thanks for the threads (50 pages !) - the double sided tape method must work - will suit me. I'm not keen on drilling holes in that new thin plastic "bumper" of the Tig.

We've got an '09 Tiguan and it doesn't have a front plate mount, it's drilled straight through the plastic along with liquid nail (prestige plates).

Fitted the plates with Bunnings PK screws. Used existing 2 nylon bush holes for the rear plate (10Gx50 screws), and drilled 4x2mm holes in the front plastic bumper, added some Locktite to the front screws (10Gx12), no glue etc. All OK.
