hey guys my 03 golf gti is running poorly and was hoping someone on here my have an idea what could be wrong with it. The problem being when i put my foot down to accelerate quickly in any gear the car seems to rev high without really going anywhere, the revs then drop down and it accelerates like normal. i have done some research and there has been some talk of it being a dodgy sensor. Does this sound right or could there be another problem?

Sounds like a slipping clutch mate, how many Ks on the car? Anywhere close to 100000ks?

It wouldn't rev like it was in neutral but if engine speed doesn't match road speed, it really does sound like a clutch issue.
I'd be looking at getting a quote from an independant VW shop in Melbourne. I am in Adelaide so can't advise where you should go.
There's up to 4 hours labour for a clutch change. I can do it on my drive in that time, so a workshop should be able to beat me with a hoist.
I would seriously consider getting a solid flywheel and VR6 clutch fitted rather than a new standard set up. They can handle more power and are much cheaper to buy. I'd go for this one. Volkswagen Golf IV 1.8T > Drivetrain > Clutch > ES#250303 VW Stage 1 Clutch Kit (228mm) With Light Weight Steel ECS 20.5lbs Flywheel, 225-275hp - 06A198002 There is a lighter flywheel which is cheaper but for a more standard driving experience go for the 20.5 lb one.

No sweat mate.
I would expect you wouldn't get much change for $1000 all in. Whether you buy your own clutch or get one from the installer.
