Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bought my first VW

    Hi everyone,

Just bought my first VW after owning a bunch of subaru's. Ive bought an 06 R32, stock standard and am loving it so far! Sounds great and pretty much on par performance wise with the club spec 9 that I've just sold. It's definitely a much nicer place to be than the subie.

    Cheers

    Hi Jason,

I'm a VW newbie too. Glad to hear you are enjoying the car

I used to have a 99 STI wrx and that car was an 'effort' to drive so I know how you feel!

Hey mate! You know you should have bought an '11 Polo GTI so you can join the waiting list like me, and not continue to rub in my face that sweet sounding R32 of yours... Bastard.

Congratulations Jason! Is it manual or DSG?

          Hey LWR..

Its a 3dr with DSG! having so much fun in it! DSG took a bit of getting use to!

Only issue I have found with the car so far is the fuel consumption however this is more driver related as it sounds awesome pushing the go pedal!

            Don't see many 3 drs around.Well done!
The DSG does take some getting used to for sure. It's really a clutchless manual.I hate driving my R in D around town because it just shuffles straight into sixth and vigorously resists changing down.In S mode,it's fine through the first three gears but hangs on too long in third. You can provoke it into fourth but it soon shuffles itself down again.
So,I drive it in M and do my own gear changes.
I get around 16L/100KM around town having fun.
The R32 does sound good and so does the R I think. It's just different.
