  • VIC - New VeeDubberCobber

    Distinguished members of the forum!

So here I am. New to the forum - but not new to VW: I have been a VeeDubber ever since I was ...ahh...what the heck ...forever!

Dad had a yellow and then an orange Beetle (that must have done it to me) and my first car was a '82 Jetta Coupe, Burgundy Red. Yes, solid 70 hp (which was well above the norm in the 80s) - let me tell you. And a rear wing. Good for reverse parking.

Later in life I 'owned' about five 181s when serving my term for zee fatherland. Two 181 (I believe you call them 'The Thing' in Australia) were good for driving, the other three were always good for parts.

A year or so later god had mercy and I was eventually blessed with a brand-new 1988 Golf Diesel - courtesy of High Command. But when I pimped it with GTI stickers I had to surrender my baby to the Divisional Commander ("How come that @#$#&$ Private is driving the GTI - that should be my privilege!")

Eventually he found out about it all and I only narrowly escaped the firing squad.

I then tried for a red '72 Karman Ghia but the deal fell through as I had to go to uni. Totally cash-strapped (why is beer so expensive when you study?) I settled for a '77 Golf I in 1992. That experience was quite out-of-this-world and it put me off VWs for the next 15 years.

Fast forward - FOB in Australia my love for VeeDubs was re-ignited when I saw 'her'; a 2001 Passat, V6 stunner. It's a dream in cream (and it's selling at the moment on the Internet/ Car Sales). I don't think I am allowed the provide a link but be assured - whilst it is a B5.5 it looks like a B6/ 3C, thanks to its groovy front mask.

    Ohh, and I just bought a MY08 Passat V6 4Motion. What a gun! Yep, and that's me.

    Cheers,
    Marc
