Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mount Cotton, QLD newbie - GOLF GTI

Hi all, Just purchased a 1999 Golf GTI (Black) - finally got bck into VW's after owning numerous other cars.... Lotus Elise, TVR, Porsche etc.... I emigrated from the UK 2 years back and could afford those sort of cars over there as they are much cheaper than here! I've owned a split screen kombi and 3 bay window vans back in the UK and used to attend the VW shows, run to the sun, vanfest, bugjam etc.... Loved being part of the VW scene - nothing else compares, no other marques have the following like Veedubs do - true classics, it's good to be back!!
First question - Is there a VW scene in QLD? Any upcoming shows? Would love to purchase a splitty again

We generally hold a monthly Euro catch up in Brisbane.
Last month we had the lotus club attend as well.

There are shows in other states specifically for VW (DOVW, SEDF, VW Nationals) but we don't have anything up here from memory.

Hopefully we can see you at some of the local meets.

    Any plans for the GTI?

Yes it's a MK4 GTI - I've spent the morning changing the oil and filter. I was speaking to a guy via email about superchiping the car, said it would give me around 50bhp @ 16PSI. I'm also looking at a set of R32 wheels on ebay but to be honest I like cars to be pretty standard, especially VW classics.

If you want to upgrade the ecu map check out Bayside Performance Services at Cleveland.
I have only heard good stories about them.

the standard Mk4 GTi is pretty good though.

Hey mate welcome to the forum, I have the exact same car as you, they are a great little car with a good engine but they are anything but quick stock, once you flash it it's a different story though. If you are free this Sunday there is a scavenger hunt/meet going on in Brissy, it's posted in the events section, it'd be great to see you there.
