Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Hi from PNTO

    Potential New Tig Owner.

Trying to decide if I should join the ranks of Tig people, or go over the to dark side of the RAV or ASX.

Looking at the Tig 125TSI or the 125DTI with the Bi-Xenon, MDI and Leather pack. Plus a few bits and bobs.

I've been reading through the forum for a few days, trying to find all the worst things people have said about their Tigs, and there isn't too much! It's been a good place to find out about the Tig and what people have done with theirs. Lots of really good, informative posts.

I'm in Townsville, Nth Qld. Would be interested if anyone else has dealt with Pickerings in Townsville and been underwhelmed by the service? They deal with the VW and Mitsubishi and so far the rsponse from the Mitsubishi side has been poor.

On the other hand, Cairns Westco has been really good.

Am only just trying to figure out what options come with what and just getting starting prices.

    Welcome to the forums.
The Tiguan is quite a capable beast and it ticked all the boxes for me in the price range i was after.

The main concerns for people are:
boot space - (can be cured as the seats slide forward, split 60/40 and can fold right down)
off-road clearance - (can be cured by using body lift spacers)

I have enjoyed every moment of owning mine and have not had any regrets at all.

      Thanks for the welcome team_v

I'm not really worried about the space. It is quiet small but I only use mine for groceries and 20kg bags of stock feed. I've got a few large dogs and will put the seats down when I transport them, which is what I do now in my Astra wagon.

Although I do live rural, I don't use my car for any off-road driving. I do however need a vehicle with a higher water clearance than the poor wagon. We have a bitumen roads but low culverts over creeks, and a few low lying stretches and they always flood in the wet.

Mainly my criteria are safety, water fording depth, and a few comforts.

I'm not a car buff so I just want something that will start, go and stop when I tell it to. I need to get around road trains safely but am very happy with my Astra's performance there so I don't need anything more than that.

I've come to the Tig mainly because it's german built. My Holden Asta is also german built and has been a lovely car. It has never given me a moment of trouble and I've done 136k in 3yrs. I lovingly wash it and armourall it every month and it's still immaculate. I wish I could just lift it up out of the water and I wouldn't have to get rid of it at all, except it is now at that magic 3yr mark. I would sooner pay more for quality up front, maybe pay more for servicing, and just get a new car before the warranty runs out. Hopefully then I'm not up for any expensive parts and repairs.

Still debating to get diesel or petrol. I want petrol, hubby thinks diesel.

The first, unhaggled, price I have been given is $54,038 for the 125TSI Petrol:

Front and rear fog lights $400
      Bi-Xenon headlights $2000
      Sidesteps $940
      Nudge bar & spotlights $300
      Dash mat - N/A
      Carpet Floor mats $284
      Cargo tub – plastic $483
      Towball $1387
      Headlight protectors $117
      Bonnet protector $133
Mud flaps front and rear $375
      Darkest tinting on windows $445
      Parallel Park Assist $1400
MDI – without the Volkswagen iPod $270
      Scuff plates $414
      Leather Upholstery Pack $4000
      Off road pack $300
      Colour – Pepper Grey $800

Jesus that is a hell of an options list.
I think you need to ask if you really need all those things.

Headlight and bonnet protector are not going to do anything if a stone comes at you.
Mudflaps aren't really necessary on the Tiguan imho.
Same goes for the scuff plates.

        Do you really need foglights?
New legislation means that you are not allowed to use them unless you are in a fog situation so in FNQ you aren't really going to have those very often?
Best bet is to just get uprated output bulbs for your headlights.

I paid $295 for all of my windows to be tinted and it came with a lifetime warranty.
I got carpet floor mats for $100

That is just my opinion and info i have gleaned from other people's comments though so it really is up to you how much you spend and what options you get.
The tiguan fording height is apparently 45cm

Why would I need to ask myself if I really need all the options I want? Don't you think I've already done that?

I have little to do today so....

Headlight and bonnet protectors have already proven their worth in my current vehicle. I've had two shattered by stones which otherwise would have taken out the lights.
          I like mudflaps.
Scuff plates as per protectors, plus I live rural, there is dirt and rocks and mud and dogs and people with boots out here.
Foglights - yes there are in fact places in FNQ and NQ that get fog. I drove through fog this morning. In addition to which they are invaluable for showing up roos, similarly for the spotties, upgraded bulbs just aren't going to do the job. I am aware of the recent legislation changes concerning foglights which only go to show our legislators are clueless and have been utterly ignored by all and sundry in my neck of the woods. I won't be seeing the police anytime soon on my road so I think I'll take that chance.

Thanks for the info on that water fording depth. I managed to get one sales rep to find it out but wasn't too confident he had it right.
