Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Hello

    Hello,

Guess I am here to introduce myself to the forum

How did I get here, well my Subaru Outback blew its head the other day and my girlfriends dad lent me his VR6 he had laying around the backyard (more on this shortly), and well after driving it for the last 2 days, have become quite excited about it.

So...its a 96 dark grey model, little rough on the cosmetic edges, but seems mechanically sound, and I have the option to purchase it....with 2 other VR6 donors thrown in for good measure (told you he had them laying around the yard), so if all goes well, will be the proud owner of 3 of them very shortly!

Anyway, look forward to getting the goss, advice and general direction as only car forums can provide.

Oh, and for good measure, also restoring a Kombi...double

    Cheers
    Ross

Once I have made sure all the best parts are on my car, will probably look to sell the other 2 cars, not keen on having spare cars laying around the yard.

Thought I better chuck some photos of the driving one up for the moment, as it was laying around in the yard, needed a good wash

I am only new to VW's and VR6's so I am gathering the current one pictured is stock as a rock, he put the 17's on the front to lend it to me as the other tyres were illegal. I am gathering the other half of the 17's are on the one I havent seen. Plans are to transfer the sports exhaust and suspension off one of the others and tidy up the trims inside. Apart from that maybe a quick air filter upgrade, stereo and thats about all I guess...time will tell.

Have thoughts of putting the good motor from one wreck into the best other wreck, and either keeping a 2nd one for my son, and / or selling both selling wrecks. I live in a rental so not a good look to many cars laying around. So may have 1-2 full cars off various condition for sale soon (ie in about 6-12 months).
