Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • From air cooled to water cooled....

Into air cooled volkswagens in a reasonable way. (1959 Karmann Ghia, 1962 splitscreen kombi single cab, 1963 splitscreen deluxe microbus, 1967 splitscreen microbus Canterbury Pitt camper)

However as daily drivers we have had a really good run with Mazdas for probably 20 years (323, 626 and currently a Mazda 6) and was looking to upgrade to a new Mazda 6 luxury sports hatch and was ready to do a deal but not willing to wait at least 3 months for delivery!

So, went and drove a GTi 6 speed golf and was super impressed. I reckon the build quality is slightly better than the Mazda and I was staggered at the amount of room inside including head room and boot area as well. The family 2 + 2 fitted well and I think would be quite comfortable for even extended trips without too much 'stuff' (our other car is a Chrysler Voyager so we don't need anything too big as a second car.)

I realise there would be a wait for a new Golf (depending on spec) but may also look at recent second hand too.

Driving the car really bought a smile to my face, so hope to be in one in the near future....

Great forum btw and packed with great info.

    Cheers, Morts
