Hi guys,

Just bought a Skoda Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDI and decided to join up. I've never been a member of a car enthusiast's forum, but there is always a first.

I got involved supporting the VW club of Sydney back in 2007 at the Nationals and that has been the extent of it every year since.

I will invest time and read through the forums. I'm sure there will be a lot to learn and i'll see how i can contribute back to the club/forum.

Hi Anthony,

I drove a 1995 model Ford Laser Sedan since new, almost 16 years.

Initially i thought through Mazda 6 / Camry / Liberty / Outback scenario. By many accounts, though considered bulletproof, the Camry was just too bland/unexciting to drive. In my budget range, i test drove the Liberty and the Outback and found them to be to very tight/constrictive. I test drove the current model Forrester. It had plenty of space, but compared to a diesel Golf, the engine had no 'oomph'.

So i focused on driving diesel Jetta's and Passat's. Didn't find the Passat i liked and test drove a few diesel Jetta's, both DSG and manual. There was 1 liked, but the dealer was simply not interested in negotiating. So, on recommendation, i decided to test drive the Skoda. I have to admit i was impressed with the drive, engine and space, so got in the end.
