Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi there,

I'm joining this site as I'm about to purchase my first water cooled....only problem is that I'm not sure which model yet

I'm not new to the 'peoples car' as I have owned various air cooled dubs including some fitted out kombis and even a baja bug. Those days were long ago selling my last kombi back in 1999.....I loved that car.

Anyway, I've taken a liking to the recent kombi beach model. Just need to weigh up whether they are worth the extra $$$ on top of getting a T5 transporter TDI. It seems there are only 2 beaches currently for sale (that I can find online), and one is under offer.

I'm currently living abroad and plan to get a van for weekends away/extended trips when I return to Australia after Easter.

Any tips or background information when buying a kombi beach? I've heard only 100-300 have been sold in Australia and they stopped making them in 2008.

      Thanks for the advice ClubCoconut,

Did you buy your beach new? Where from? I was thinking of waiting to find a 4-motion model, but the standard model will do. There is one for sale in Canberra but it seems it is priced above market value....maybe if they come down in price a bit.....
