Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NewB - after some advice (post purchase issues with VW)

    Hi.

New to the forum. I read a fair bit on this forum in the lead up to purchasing a "New" Golf GTI and appreciated the breadth of info on this forum.

Golf GTI, Tornado Red, Park Assist and Reverse Camera, 18" Detroits.

    I Love the ride.

    Issues in brief:
    Car dirty on pick up
Misquoted mileage - told under 100KM - on pick up there was 197KM on the clock.
Car previously registered (at least in the service schedule book that I have - there is someone else's name and a delivery date 2 months prior) Dealer says that this transaction did not go though.
Assumed it was 2011 model but it's 2010.

I know that I should have checked these things but I didn't know that I should scrutinize every detail of the car and contract - second time every buying a new car - I continue to live and learn (or not).

I feel that I got a demonstrator not a new car (and a dirty one at that)
It appears on paper that I am the second owner
I think I paid too much for given what has happened ($45500)

Would like some advice around these purchase issues but I don't know whether to post more information on this generally or whether I can email someone on the forum with experience in these matters. I don't want to name the dealer as I am trying to get some resolution but I would like some advice/perspective from anyone who can help.

    Thanks in advance

    Jeustin

Hi Jeustin, and welcome to the forums!

Sorry to hear of your troubles with your dealer. Have you discussed the matter with them at length? In your position I'd speak to the dealer (salesman and then dealer principle) first, and see if a resolution can be reached. If you don't get a good outcome there, you could speak to consumer affairs in your state to see if they have any advice that may help (and see what legally constitutes delivery mileage). Your insurance company may be able to offer advice free of charge as well - particularly with regard to finding out if the car has been previously registered, and how (if at all) that may affect its value and any other factors.

Fingers crossed you can get it all sorted to your satisfaction. Enjoy the car!

      Thanks

      Hey Adam,

Thanks for the reply and advice.

I've found out that the car was not registered previously even though it looked that it had been.

I've had initial discussions with the sales manager and am hopeful of a resolution. I'll post on the outcome.

      Cheers

          Hi Adam,

I said that I'd update you on the outcome. I asked for and got $2000 from the dealer - seemed reasonable given all the hassle that I had.
I still have a couple of issues that still need resolving but things are a bit better than before.

          Cheers

          Jeustin
