Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello to all fellow VW fans.

    Hi,
Sorry I just noticed that my first post should be here (missed it by a day - sorry).
I drive a 2008 Bluemotion 2 in the UK having covered around 26680 miles (42940 km) from new.
This is the first diesel I have owned and I would not want to return to petrol (sorry to all you GTi fans), the Diesel is much more of a pleaseure to drive (at my age anyway).

I love it and wish it was available here. But then no one (else) would have bought it until this year

The only concern I have with that model is that the 2 has a DPF fitted. I'm sure that's one of the reasons that the Bluemotion 1 is more economical, besides the weight. Do you often get DPF regens and do you normally do short (< 10 mile / 16km) or long trips?

I'd be looking at a DPF delete if possible and that should improve just about everything.

It has DPF but the variable geometry turbo seems to assist the regens, I do a mix of town (work / shopping) and longer trips, even if I run around town for a month I don't seem to get problems. I've had the DPF light on twice in two years, the last time it came on was on the motorway after travelling 30 miles (45km) at a steady 70mph (110km/h), that doesn't make much sense to me but I put her in 4th gear (same speed) for about 10 miles. During the regen the exhaust note deepens and it seems to have more pull from idle (probably pumping a little extra fuel). I love the fact that the inside of the exhaust is cleaner than the wheels the day after I washed them - I don't know if it would be legal in the UK to do a delete but I'll wait until its out of its 3 year warranty before doing anything like this.
