Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 1st VW - impulse purchase - and a little bit of buyers remorse!

    Hi all,

I've been looking for a wagon for a few months - first car - so went into VW to test drive the Golf Wagon. Also considered the Passat but it was just that little bit bigger and bulkier, as well as being out of budget.

Came away from the dealership with a Golf Wagon 118 TSI Comfortline for $35,500. Had a pretty smooth talking salesperson and I've always been a sucker, so fell for the sales talk. Totally did not intend to buy a car today!

Came home and had a bit of buyers remorse so started googling and found this forum. Can anyone make me feel better what is it about VW that you all love? I found the braking rather sudden and sensitive, and it will take a while to get used to the indicators being on the left not the right. I will admit that the ride was very smooth though.

    Reassurance desperately needed! Cheers!

Providing you can afford what you bought, you'll be OK. Over 20 Million Golfs (Golves?) have been sold wordwide since 1976.

Just remember one thing........"Volkswagen is not a car, it's a way of life"!

Don't worry about the indicator thing ... I've got a BMW and my wife has a Honda, so left and right. But it just seems to work out.

I thought about a Golf Wagon also - nice car, but decided on the CC instead. Just think about the quality of these thing. The thud of the doors ... Not many like them around.

        Enjoy !!

Thanks all, really looking forward to picking it up and taking it for a spin. I normally spend a long time analysing any decision - certainly had researched lots of wagons, inc. the Passat wagon etc - and was determined to test drive all the contenders at least twice. So, to buy the golf just after one test-drive, when I wasn't particularly fond of the brakes, did my head in. The sales guy really convinced me, said there were any barely white Golf wagons left, any new stock would arrive in months time, etc etc etc.

I guess I'll get used to the brakes in time, and the indicators too

Relax, you will fall in love with your new car. I took a little while to get used to the brakes (because they are so good). Whenever I drive my wife's Corolla, 2010 model, I sure notice how superior the Golf brakes are. The indicator is just one of those things that you have to deal with, in time you get used to it.

You don't need to feel any remorse, JG135, the Golf is certainly the best car I've driven. The clutch and brakes are feather-light, that's true, but once you get used to them, anything else you subsequently drive will feel like a tractor. I've done the "oops - that's the wipers" a couple of times when turning, but again, it will become second nature after a while. I've also washed the windscreen when I meant to flash the headlights...

There are so many positive things about the Golf, the two that you specifically mention will pale into insignificance in a month's time.

                Hi all,

Thanks for the reassurances!! We picked it up today - just 6 days later so that was very quick indeed. Still getting to know it, but feeling much more positive about it than on the day that we bought it.

Now... we need floor mats. I've browed 2 floor mat threads (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f40/...ink-34299.html and http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/f112...ool-45464.html) but I have a quick question for the knowledgeable folks here: would floor mats fitted for the Golf hatch or GTI be the same as for the Golf wagon?

                Cheers

I've shared many a friendly wave with fellow dubbers - I can't say that about any other car I've driven ... Enjoy your new ride.

                    Welcome mate.

"Volkswagen is not a car, it's a way of life"! - Very true

Indicator thing will come second nature. I work at Mazda and Mitsubishi workshop and drive home in a VW and Im now so used to the wiper and indicators now hahaha. I havnt owned a "new" VW before but we have had a few come into work. And I gotta tell you mate, the quality and feel of VW compared to other Japanese makes is superior.

Your in the family now and like a lot of us, wont see yourself leaving anytime soon haha
