Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Keeping it in the family

So I've just bought myself a 2003 V6 Bora which I cannot wait to pick up! This is the first car I've really 'bought' per se, I originally had an '87 5 series which was a hand-me-down and then I had an '89 Range Rover which I got for a dollar per kilo off eBay. So I'm pretty excited to own (well, with the banks help) a real car of my own.

The Bora will not be lonely being the 4th VW in the immediate family. My dad just recently acquired an R36, my sister is about to pull the trigger on a mkIV Golf and my mother has the piece de resistance, a 1961 Karmann Ghia.

I guess I haven't really got any long term plans for the car given most of my money will be spent paying it off and petrol, but there are a few things I'd like to do performance/aesthetics wise. I will be using the car for a lot of snow/beach adventures so I definitely don't want to lower it or anything like that. Wouldn't mind squeezing a bit more power out of the engine, but like I said I'm on a pretty strict budget. I would love any suggestions of what little things can be done to make a difference.

Anyways, pretty stoked to be a VW owner!

    Thanks,

    J
