Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Itching to pick up my new black R in a few days. I was wondering whether there is a "need" for running in the car and if so, for how many kilometres?

Hey mate congrats on the R, there are different schools of thought best thing don't remain in a constant rpm (highway speeds in particular) for extended periods, vary your speed/rpm give it full throttle without thrashing it and don't stamp on the brakes excessively hard in the early days! after 1000kms you should be ok.

THanks for that, i was told that i can "drive it like you stole it" but i'll just be trotting along for a while. I've had a pretty lame dealer delivery experience though, very lousy job on the detailing, will post pictures of scratches and transport wax left behind on the rubber etc later. i'll be trying to get my money back because i feel that i just handed them more cash to buy a new car if that makes sense. will post pics later.

So just clicked over 2000km on the weekend and have been driving the car as per normal. Quite a few red line overtakes in sports mode on the highway. Performed beautifully no problems at all. So I don't see any reason to baby a modern tsi engine

Sweet, I've done just over 1000km myself driving to the country and chose the mountainous way there. It's so quick to the red line! I've driven at various speeds and tried to vary the rpm a bit, but as you said angry, no need to baby the engine. Thanks for the input

3000km on the clock now and I checked the oil. I really expected it to have used some but its still just under full. Doing another thousand on Tuesday driving back to the mine so I'll check again after that. Car hasn't missed a beat! SO much smoother than my older club spec 7 rexy and much more powerful
