Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • The wait......its killing me!!

    Hi guys

I've been surfing the forums for a while now and thought I'd better contribute to repay all the great advice I've come across here. I have a 08 Touareg which hasn't skipped a beat since we bought it so when it came time to replace my current ride, I ordered a Golf R. That was a month ago and at the time I thought the six month wait wouldn't be too bad.......how wrong was I!! It didn't help that a good mate picked up his carbon steel GTI two weeks ago either. I've always leaned towards the R over the GTI but given the choice of fanging around in a brand new GTI next week or staring at my Golf R screen saver, you can see why I'm wavering in my commitment to the R.

Anyway, its off to the dealership this weekend to check out a GTI.......

To all the R owners out there.....how did you manage to wait?????

    Welcoem to the forums mate.
I only had to wait 4 months for my car so it wasn't as bad as 6.

I made it go faster buy buying something for my car every 2 weeks (car shampoo, stubby antenna, new bulbs etc)
Feel free to rock up to the Monthly euro meet on Friday night in Brisbane to meet some of the SEQLD dubbers.
There are a bunch of them coming up from the gold coast.

Thanks team_v! Wouldn't mind coming along to the meet......just need to figure out once and for all whether I can hang in there and wait for the R or take the GTI.

The GTI is a very capable machine.
With the electronic wizardry they have in it (XDS etc) for daily use it will be suitable for almost everyone's needs.
In the end it's really up to you though so i would test drive one closest to the spec you want and see how it compares.

Hopefully we'll see you on Friday.

Don't let the wait kill you before you get the car!

get your helpfull salesperson to give you the VIN number of the car & track it here:
Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics - worldwide ocean transport, inland services, supply chain solutions, terminal services
If it's on the ship you can find out by putting the VIN into the relevant box under "track & trace". It'll show you the arrival date at the designated harbor - add 3 weeks & voila you roughly have your ETA

Thanks Christian. They did tell me about that when I ordered but the car hasn't entered production yet. My understanding is that cars ordered in Jan don't enter production until about March and then its another three or so months after that.

You can probably now see why people fore-go some of the options they want and just pick a car up from the dealer rather than waiting for a custom build.
