Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Newbie looking at first VW - Warning - long boring post

    G'Day all.

Many moons ago I was looking for a new car I had considered MkIV GTI's, Bora's, 9N Polo GTI's Stock & Chipped. I was looking for something with a bit of oomph to replace my 1996 Subaru Librety AWD 2.2i.

So whilst looking at all the aforementioned cars. I decided to get a Landrover Defender... a little different & possibly off the mark I hear you say! Yes indeedy. It has been a great truck and saved my bacon a few times with the extra fridge it came with and superior 4WD ability to get me out of some sticky situations. Road manners and preformance ( Insert Tumbleweed here ) leave something to be desired with a quick jaunt to the shops a full body workout and stretching regime.

So again I'm coming close to paying the ol girl off and looking at another car to serve me as an everyday car with power comfort and space (You'd be surprised how little space there is in a 2 ton truck) This has led me back down the VW path

Thankyou for your patience thus far!

Sooooo I've been looking around and have decided that a Bora would suit my needs with spacious boot and the creature comforts it offers. My only quandry now is whether i can find a good 2002+ Bora for under $15,000 with less than 150,000km & Preferably untarnished & stock.

The next question is Engine choice. There doesn;t seem to be a lot of difference performance wise between the V5 & V6 after I did my power to weight Ratio equations including rough drivetrain losses. They were both around the same with Power to Weight around 80something kW ATW in each case.

So if I haven't bored the pants off you & you have an opinion on the Bora's, please comment away.

    Cheers Frosty

    Boras are great.
remember the V6 ones also come with AWD, where as the rest are FWD. Might be something you want coming from a Liberty and the Defender.
For that price and KM im sure you could pick something up

Good luck and welcome to the forum
