Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Dang. I've renewed my love affair with driving.

I've had to purchase a replacement vehicle. The Sentra Q that has served completely faithfully is rusting out, and no longer warrant-able without expenditure of a greater value than the likely sale price.

I wasn't looking at Polos. I had a look at a couple of Golfs, and liked the way they drive. Happened upon the Polo while visiting a sick relative at a rest home. His son was there and came with me, and he knows a lot about things mechanical.

It wasn't love at first sight, though it looks nice. Very nice. It was love at first drive. And still is. I love the way it goes, the flexibility and sound of the engine, and the excellent performance. I love the rigid feeling in the body; the lack of squeaks and rattles. I love the way it goes precisely where I point it, with excellent feedback through the wheel, which is made easier to feel because the seat holds me so well in position. It convincingly sold itself to me on that first drive.

I've had oddball and fairly nice cars before,in another life - most noteworthy among them a Scimitar, and a Rover 3L - but this tops it. After commuting and touring for the last ~15 years in yer bog-standard Hondas, Nissan Sentras, A Galant, etc..all very pleasant and reliably competent transport devices, the Polo is an eye, mind and soul opener.

Simply put, it's the nicest, tidiest, sexiest car I've ever owned. I love it.

hey mate, welcome to the dub club!

    is it the polo 77tsi?

if so, very fricking nice- i took one for a test drive, and i was ... what? how can a simple 1.2L engine do this?

now- your next task is to get in on the polo 6R forums on here- the boys there are getting pretty heated in terms of modding these solid, beuatifully engineered little gems!

    cheers mate

      Thanks, Buller_Scott.

      It's a 2007 1.8L Gti turbo. (not the 77tsi.)
But it is a solid and beautifully engineered little gem all right.
I won't be doing much modding. But hey, all respect to those that do. (Unless we're talking massively flared guards, lowered seats, a 300W boombox and an alloy v8 shoehorned into it, of course. )
