Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW So I bought an xmas present for myself...

Greetings fellow VW owners and enthusiasts,

Introducing a 2006 VW Jetta 2.0 Turbo FSI owner. Finished in Silver with Grey leather (Blackman's rather than factory, which I don't find to be such a bad thing...) with 60500km on the clock, and stock as a rock.

I am absoloutely loving this car. I was tossing up between this and a Mk V Golf GTI, but at the end of the day the annonymity of the car, price, and flexibility (boot space) of the car won me over. The car is used as a daily driver, and as found out on a trip to the Kangaroo Valley over the weekend, doubles as an awesome weekend escape car.

    Future plans/mods:
    1. New tyres previous owner/fleet manager chepaed out on the tyres (Federals) and they can wheelspin with esp on (proves I belong in a Jetta rather than a GTI, but it's fun and annoying). Although keeping the wheels stock for now
    2. New speakers/sound system.
    3. Xenon lights
    4. GTI paddle-shift steering wheel
    5. Exhaust

Thanks to all of you for your contribution to this forum as I've been following it over the past few months to help with my decision - although seeing these in action in Europe really swayed me to get one

      Welcome to the Forums mate.
The Jetta's always seem to catch my eye.

Did the Jetta have in-seat airbags?
If so you may have some issues with the aftermarket leather seats.

The Xenon lights are also a pain to retrofit legally as the costs are astronomical.
It might be best to get a set of projector surrounds that suit and run higher output Halogen bulbs.
Otherwise it is going to cost you around $4-5k to get it done legally.

        team_v,

It does have in-seat airbags, and it has "AIRBAG" stamped on the out sides of the seats. From my understanding, it was a dealer-fit job, rather than an original option. But either way, let's hope I don't get side-swiped.

Also, after reading on threads about xenons, I realised that I could get a turbo & intercooler upgrade, chip, exhaust, and have change for a stereo upgrade for 100 times less effort. I've had experience before with the higher output halogens, so I'll stick to them.
