Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Soon-to-be GTI owner from Perth

Hi all, better make a introduction post as I've already defied the rule and posted twice in another thread.

Just ordered a Golf GTI yesterday, it will replace the girlfriend's
'03 Astra ( die) and be the new daily driver for our 90km/day commute. I waited patiently for the Polo GTI, but when I found out the delivery date would be August for the spec I wanted, I quickly forgot about it.

The Golf will be a 2011 build due in May, white 5 door DSG with Dynaudio, BT, RVC, Detroits. Current car is a well-modified '07 Focus XR5 which I'll be keeping as my toy, but looking forward to a relaxing daily driver with balls in the GTI. I've gone with tradition and ordered the car with no test drive (I like surprises), but I've driven the mk5 before and I loved it, especially the DSG, feels like I'm playing rFactor. Girlfriend has never driven a car with more power than the Astra (90kw), so I'm looking forward to her reaction when her foot first goes down. Power is safety, I think after living with a lack of power for so long she will really appreciate the Golf.

I seriously considered the mk5 GTI back when I bought the Focus but the $4k price difference helped make my decision easier. I don't regret it though and soon I'll have what I consider the two best hot hatches ever sitting in my garage, so I'm pretty excited!

Congrats! I reckon you'll love the DSG for the long commute. Should we be taking bets about how long you'll have the GTI for before getting an APR flash done?
