Greetings and salutations all.
I have had VW's all my life, the majority of which are air-cooled (I still have four of them), but for everyday driving purchased a Golf MkIV 2.0 Sport back in 2003. I always dreamed of doing wonderous things to it, but it is still completely stock. I live on a dirt road and flash rims and low profile tyres don't mix well with pot holes. May go the neuspeed supercharger one day for the fun factor.
The catalyst that has sent me onto the forums has been the purchase of a $200 1995 SEAT Ibiza 1.4. I have always had a soft spot for the car and this one was too good to pass up. It needs work but the body is straight, the engine runs well and the gear box is functional (thanks to fitting a shift linkage bush - 1st, 3rd and 4th weren't quite enough for daily driving). Of all the necessary items to be addressed, the intermittent speedo and tacho that work when the car is cold is the most frustrating. A quote of $280 to fix or $220 to replace from a wrecker is where I am currently at.
When all is sorted I may play with the car on the track via the VW Club of Victoria. I have other projects on the go too though, so I will have to apportion funds accordingly to current favoured direction. My '59 Drag Beetle needs running gear, my '67 Beetle needs paint and reassembly and the fastbacks are feeling neglected. Too many projects, too little time.
Time to resurrect an Ibiza......
