G'day everyone!
I'm Toff, and my old man is Brian (expect to see him on here soon). I'm primarily a biker, still on P's but off restrictions early next year (Ninja here I come!), as well as a rotary owner (S1 RX7 with a 13b turbo). Dad's had a ****eload of cars before, including a '77 Mk1 GLS. Currently has a Nissan Terrano II.
Some of you may have seen JoshFair's Mk1 for sale on here, and now it's in the hands of me and dad with the view to a joint project over the next year or so.
Unfortunately when we went to go inspect/ buy it, the bonnet release wasn't working
Bit of a nervous drive from Launnie to Hobart knowing that we couldn't open the bonnet if something played up. Fortunately Josh was right and it didn't miss a beat the whole time.
When we got it back we had a closer look at the release mechanism, which meant having to take the grill off. Turned out the pinch clamp had loosened off the cable making the lever useless. Pair of pliers got it open, and then I could tighten it back up again. So it'd be safe to close it again, right? Nope, wouldn't open again and took another half hour of pulling, pushing and levering to get the f*cker open again, so upon it's release we removed the whole assembly.
Went to take it for a quick drive and since we didn't have the bonnet holder in place dad decided that an old bike tube would be able to hold it in place. For anyone wondering, do not do this. ever. First few bumps and the bonnet lifted slightly, letting the air get under it and forcing it up, at which point the tube snapped and the bonnet flew up. I didn't react quick enough, and so now something (either the hinges or the bonnet itself) is slightly bent so that the bonnet no longer opened or closed properly. So it's off the car for now until we sort it out.
We now have another rolling shell lined up, so the current plan is to get this shell (which has significantly less rust than the current one) and strip it down the bare metal, do a full respray and build it up with some quality parts. The end product is (hopefully) going to be dads new daily, so it won't be stupidly powerful or anything, the focus is on something that is reliable as well as looks good and has a decent amount of poke.
Anyway, here's how it is now:

Expect to see plenty of questions in the near future!
