Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi guys/gals.

My name is Keith and I'm a 54 years young senior motor vehicle technician at a College. I've been driving and riding motorcycles for the past 37 years.

My current car is the 2010 Golf GTD, this will be the second VW I've owned. My father had a 1968 VW camper and when he died I was stuck for a motor so I used it for 4 years. Now I generally keep my cars for a long time. I had an 1985 Ford Escort XR3i 24k miles which was 2 years old when I bought it. I kept that for 7 years, 78k miles. Then I had a 1993 Rover 216 GTi 17k miles which was 9 months old when I bought it. I had it for 16 years and 68k miles. Now I would never think of buying a new car as you loose that must just taking them of the forecourt. Last year the government and the manufactures got together and they made the scrappage scheme which means you can trade your old motor in providing its 10 years old or more and buy a new car. So where else would you get £2000 for a 17 year old Rover.

    Welcome to the forums mate.
The GTD is a nimble little beast.

From memory you can get a custom code dpf delete and tune which will make it a brutally quick machine but still good on fuel.

You are lucky to get the scrappage scheme, we didn't get it here.
