Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

G'day to the forum. Found you while surfing around for some info on Glow plugs.

Love the Multivan, we've had it since new and with 3 kids it's the only car for us.

So here's my question. The Glow Plug light came on today when driving back from Mona Vale beach.
Van kept going although it seems to have lost some power on the hills.
When I got home I stopped and restarted the engine which was no problem even though I got the "Engine! Workshop" message on the dash before I restarted.

Am I at risk of breaking down or damaging the car if I drive it to the service centre? How urgent is this problem?

    Always the way...

So 3 hours later I go to drive the van again and the glow plug light doesn't come on and everything seems to be back to normal. I'll get it checked out but does anybody know what the behavior of this warning light is indicating?

It could be that a glow plug is on the way out but im not sure that it would cause loss of power. If it is just a glow plug then i wouldnt be too worried since its obviously intermittent and since the weather is fairly warm start up shouldnt be too bad.

A quick vagcom scan will be handy tho to see what the exact error code is
