Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

        Welcome, veedubber!
Forums can be a great source of info; however beware that with the forums, you will soon want to research and mod your car in various ways, especially if you have a long wait ahead. Ample time to get the ideal version of your modded car sorted in your head - then do it via the info here.

Enjoy your time and I hope that the waiting time flies for you.

          Thanks guys,

          My R specs include:
          - White 3dr
          - DSG
          - ACC
          - 19" Black Tallageda's

That all I wanted. I was considering leather, but I like the white contrast in the stock seats, also apparently you dont slide around as much in the stock seats as you do in leather.
Also considered the dynaudio option - but Id rather listen to exhaust note.
All other options would have been luxuries, I just want the machine to drive - thus choosing to get the ACC as well. The Tallageda's are for looks I guess.

Welcome, I am with you on the seats.. I thought although the leather was nice the cloth seats were lighter in the cabin and you dont get you but burnt on a summers day. I am guessing it is a manual and not DSG

What made you assume that it was a manual lol?

My bad I didnt see it listed the first time around and your comment lead me to believe you were a purist..

Having said that I am interested in your experience with the DSG, the reading everywhere suggests the initial gripe is with the pauses and sudden rush to the 7th gear but appears over time to dissapate.

I didnt notice it too much on the number of test drives I have taken but then again I am coming from a 2 litre Subaru

Well I have to say that I found the DSG to be faultless. It was smooth, and changed gears gradually - not in a rush. Perhaps it was due to the demo already clocking 2000kms.

Is it proven that the 'quick rushing DSG gears' problem goes away after the car is run in?

I can state unequivocally that the OP will not be experiencing any sudden rush to 7th gear.

I'm sure you wouldn't have, R has 6 speed DSG

To the OP, rest easy, DSG is fantastic, having owned two, my next will also be DSG. Plenty of opinions either way on here, most (not all) of the negative is from people who haven't owned one.

Welcome Veedubber. Congrats on the purchase. Love the R! I'm jealous. Just got back from a trip overseas so don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon.
