Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ACT Hi from ACT

    Hi all,

Around a month ago I bought a red coloured 2005 Polo GTi (2005-2010 shape) from VIC. This forum was good to do some much needed research. Bought the car with only 60K km on it and came with excellent RACV report.

Only issues were some minor gutter rash on all four wheels (how does one even get rash on all 4 wheels?), inevitable stone chips up the front and light paint swirls.

Oh, and the exhaust tips are not level (slightly out) but cannot work out for the life of me how to straighten them (visually annoys me-will be fixed). There are no marks anywhere (not on the tips or exhaust) so how did it even get bent?

Coming from a 1995 Hyundai Excel which was finally retired to this car was a world of difference (obviously).

Live in the ACT so don't drive much (cycle everywhere) but do enjoy the car for the weekends away.

I have spent countless hours getting the car to the state that I am happy with it (lot of cleaning and detailing, paint touch-ups for stone chips, leather conditioning and engine bay clean). Like to keep it looking good. Just had a tow bar installed (for carrying the bikes and snowboards) and the next modification will be DNA Tuning ECU flash. Need more power now that I am use to the car.

Besides that, the only thing on the horizon is to possibly add mud guards. I am tired of having the rear of the car splattered when driving in the rain. I'll search the posts to see what it costs, DIY install easiness and how it ultimately looks.

    See you in the forums.

Pics before towbar was installed and rego transferred to ACT (pic 1.5mths old). I also now have standard number plates (no slimline or plate protector anymore).

Just gave it a wipe down today and applied Meguirs Ultimate Quick Detailer (first time trying it out). Usually use the Turtle Wax (colour match polish) with EagleOne nanowax. Seems to work well enough but looking for a one step thing that will look good and last forever. I am just too lazy to keep doing this cleaning stuff (but I still want my car to look good). The Meguirs Ultimate Quick Detailer will hopefully do the trick given what I have seen on youtube videos on the water repellency and hopefully 'durable'.
