Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • ipod connector not supported

I really felt the issue of the ipod connector needed a thread of it's own as it has been an ongoing issue with my new Tiguan.
I actually wanted to have Media-In for my vehicle but it was the only option that I wanted that was not available on the vehicle that was available. The dealership recommended the ipod connector as being ideal for my needs. It would charge my ipod and I could operate the preselected playlists through my radio.
However my relatively new ipod touch was not supported. It therefore did not charge the ipod, however the radio functions did work. As a consequence, on a long trip I would have to unplug the ipod and use the charger in the console or glovebox.
It is basically a power source problem, something to do with volts, usb and firewire. Most ipods after 2008 are not compatible with the connector.
VW have obviously bought a big heap of these and dealerships are encouraging unsuspecting customers to have them installed.
My dealership actually suggested that my ipod was old, which is why it did not work. I am struggling to get a full refund. my next step is to go to the Qld Office of Fair trading.
There was also a problem with my reverse sensors which i will discuss in another thread
    happy tigging

A lot of the Ipod issues are actually caused by Apple and not VW. Ask Apple to fix the problem and see how far you get.

As for the reverse sensors I'd be interested to know what the issue is. My brother just found out his reverse sensors on his car are non-genuine even though the receipt of sale says that genuine were installed by the selling dealer. Unfortunately the dealer that sold the car is no longer in business so his only hope is that VW will help him out.
