  • NSW Replacing a manual transmission with an auto - feasible? sensible? affordable?

I recently bought a 98 Polo in quite good nick. The one thing that I expect may give me trouble before too long is the gearbox, but it's going fine for now. And pretty much everything else about the car is very good.
I bought it for my daughter, but driving a manual has proved more trouble than its worth. Before I sell this little beauty, it struck me that it might possibly be feasible to replace the manual transmission (which as I said is probably the car's weak point anyway) with a reconditioned auto box.
Has anyone ever done this before. Is it feasible? Can it be done for a reasonable cost?
Or is it just a blatantly dumb idea.

    Welcome to VWWC

I'm no expert, but that sounds like a whole lot of pain for a lot more cost than it would probably be to just sell your current one and buy an auto

I would have to agree with Pepe, its probably more hassle than the effort you may have to put in especially if your relying on outsourcing the mechanical work. If its in good nick there shouldn't be a problem selling it. Maybe try the selling the car on the car for sale thread in this forum??

All the best with the Polo and welcome to VWWC

Thanks guys. I decided to sell it and managed to do so in two days flat.
It was a good little car.
Back to the drawing board on finding a car for my daughter.
