  • R36 tyre wear

    Hi Guys

We have a 2009 R36 wagon in Icelandic grey with 30k on the clock.
Its one of the best driving cars we have owned (compared with BMW, Saab, Subaru turbo etc) - however, not as quick as my Fireblade!!.

One disappointment is the inability to load CDs directly into the hard drive in the sound system - does anyone have a solution apart from using memory cards as the transfer medium?

The Dunlop Sport SP01 tyres have been great on the road & good in terms of the tread wear markers. However, the 2 LHS tyres (front & back) have developed excessive wear on the inside edges & both have developed cuts (around 5mm) in the tyre walls since the 15k service. As the tyres are otherwise "perfect", I wonder if this might be a defect in the tyres rather than just an alignment problem.

Any comments or suggestions would be welcome.

    David

The R36 runs camber and toe settings which are a tad aggresive.
Most owners have complained of this issue and the general response is that you should get VW to do a proper wheel alignment and get a rpint out of the report when you pick up the car.
The jostling around on the delivery boat has put some people's settings way out.

Pretty sure there isn't another way, unless you can use a USB device through the MDI to do it, but I don't know if that works... I only have the iPod MDI cable and you can't do it directly from an iPod.

        Thanks
Maybe I should have had a front & rear alignment done at the first service.

          Thanks Pepe
It is such a pain to use the memory cards. As the system can read memory cards & store onto the hard drive, it doesn't make sense that it can only play from the CD/DVD inputs & not similarly store from them onto the hard drive.

Agreed, it's definitely painful, and the interface speed is terrible, even when using Class 6 or above SD cards... it would literally take hours to fill the hard drive copying from SD. Still, once its on there, its quicker than MDI/iPod for browsing at least.

If you do U-turns frequently; you will find the LHS will wear out more quickly, although it seems in your case to have happened over a fairly short amount of mileage.

Have you had a wheel alignment report done yet? Does the car track perfectly straight (ie. with wheel in dead centre on flat road, is the car travelling straight)?

                John

I live in country NSW so very few U-Turns - mainly open roads but some dirt & bumpy (not good for alignment).
I am having the alignment checked next week (front & back) & will be interested in the results.
When I get new tyres, I plan to get the alignment checked regularly - say every 5k.
