Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD Waiting for my R

    Hey All,

Accidentally found this place as I was looking for info and pictures on the Golf R - To which I must say I've ordered it today..
Now just have to wait for them to verify how long I have to wait until I get to drive it home...
I have a feeling it is going to be a long wait

    Ordered:
    Golf R
    5 Door Manual
    Rising Blue
19" Silver Alloys (It took me a week until I decided to get Silver over Black)
    Adaptive Chassis Control

And with that I didn't really want to spend anymore money...

    G.
Now Driving : Rising Blue Golf R - 5 Door ; Manual ; ACC ; 19" Talladega Wheels (silver) ; PPQ Euro Plates.

    Welcome to the forums.

If you wanted to save money you cvould have got a Tiguan TSI and remapped it with a stage 1 software.

Golf R power and AWD but for much less cash.
That is the route i have taken.

Thanks for the welcome there TV - Hmm I had a look at the Tiguan and personally I like the look of the R better than the Tiguan, more like one of those 4x4 people drive around the place hmm looks like a Subaru Forrester, but that is just me (no offense intended)

No worries, just letting you know there are other less expensive options out there with the same level of functionality (if not more functionality)
I have essentialy what you ordered but without the ACC and a taller ride height.

        Hope you enjoy the R.

I have only seen 2, 1 black and 1 blue.

Currently it is at $55,990 for all of the above, but I received an email about some "extra's" like paint protection, rust protection, stuff for the interior etc for $1250, so might be a little more than that in the end, was thinking about just getting the paint and rust protection...

Here is a question for those that already have the R, on the VW website it says it comes with Window tinting but it is a bit vague, does it actually come with UV window tinting on ALL the windows, or is it just a dark tint on "some" of the windows?? Same thing with the parking assisting sensors, I've read that it comes with rear and front is that correct, as on the option features it has it marked as not an option rather than "S" for standard.

                Tinted glass
Dark tinted rear side window and rear window glass, 65% light absorbing.

Don't get any dealer protection package.
Your best bet is to buy a detailing kit from carcareproducts.com.au and do it yourself, you will save hundreds of dollars and know it is being done properly and will provide protection.
The dealership one is useless and VW ausready has a rust free warranty for a period of time.

If they try to charge you for the window tint, get a quote from mastertint and tell the dealer to match it.
My dealer wanted $550 for the windows, mastertint did it for around $200

Thanks for the info they have currently quoted me $305 for the window tinting, so that isn't to bad I guess, but I will have a look around and see what others will do it for and I will email the guys at carcareproducts for recommendations on a do it yourself detailing kit..
