Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hello All
I have just bought the new 132kw Transporter and reckon it not nearly as quick as my last 128kwT5. Any thoughts, how do I identify that I have the 132kw engine apart from the sales slip? It could be the 75Kw engine.?

    Hi, and welcome!

I'm not a transporter expert, but if you get the engine number, there will be a way to determine.

The kW measurement is a peak figure, and the shape of the power curve is actually more important for drivability and overall acceleration.
Lastly, speed is about power to weight. if the newer van is 3% more powerful, but 10% heavier, then it will be slower
(assuming that the power curves are a simliar shape)

There are a few ways to tell the 132s from the 103s.

Do you have 17" wheels? If so do the front brakes fill them? (132s get much larger front stoppers, the 17" rim only just fits over them)
The TDI badge on the back, the DI will be red.
Look at the engine, the pipe going over the top of the motor (just left of centre in the engine bay) splits to two, one going to each turbo. The sign that you're looking at the right pipes is that there is a little blue KKK plate on the top of the Y Pipe.

The 132s don't feel as brutal as the old 128s because they have a lot less turbo lag, the power delivery is much smoother. Trust me, put them side by side and the 132 is much faster. VW's official figures put the SWB 128 manual 0-100 at 12.2 seconds and the SWB 132 manual at 9.9 seconds.
