  • VIC Sway Bar? Mk2 Golf GTI

    Hi Chaps,

    I've a 91 golf gti which is great, and I'm pretty handy so far with the minor bits - clutch cables, fuel pumps and the like. My query is this: I have a hollow rectangular bar bolted to the top of the two rear wheel wells. This bar seperates the boot tray and the back seat rest. As far as I can see it's purpose is to hold up the boot tray. I'm keen to take it out so that I can get more boot space, though I dont want to weaken the structure.
    I can take a pic when I get home if that helps.
    Cheers,

    Giles

    ps. Also, does anyone know where to buy replacement rubber surrounds for the rear doors of a mk2 gti, mine are perishing.

    If its the bar im thinking off its a used for rear baby seat harness. I removed mine in my Mk3 so i can fit bikes etc in the back.

      Thanks, that sounds right. I might grab a pic to make sure yours looked the same.

        photos of prop/sway bar

        @Water Boy
        Here's the shot of the prop/sway bar. Let me know if it looks the same as the one you took out, I'd love to get rid of it - bikes are always a problem for me too.
        many thanks,
        Giles

          Remove it and sell it.

          It will be providing minimal torsional rigidity, but it is only there to meet 1990's ADR's - I'm pretty sure it does not need to be there for registration inspections.

            Thanks mikinoz. I'll pull it now and store it just in case I need it for rego.
