Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SA back on the water

Well after a few years break and driving on air I am back onto the water with a MK3 vento. I have previously owned a MK3 vento that I bought new in 95 and customised mildly - and I did 250,000 km in it - and also did 2 gearboxes and a motor, and PLENTY of window motors/regulators/cables ... but I am going again. My wife says I am mad - time will tell lol

Welcome mate. Guessing you've aquired Robin's old Vento? Very nice example of a clean stocker
No chips available for the MK3's locally mate, maybe look into an eBay chip from Europe for the 2.0L
As for lowering, myself and Robin offer quite a few options for lowering suspension, both coilovers and spring and shock combos.
Shoot us a PM if there's something your interested in

Glad to see you joined up nick. Now that I'm running a v6 passat in place of the vento I miss those rare fuel stops!

I will try and find some pics of the previous car -it had BBS copies 15's - rear spoiler, lowered, tinted windows - dark ,twin tip exhaust to fill out the gap a git better, it was 'hot chilli red pearl effect' in colour - according to VW marketing - first one sold in SA and I bought it from Eblens - the current is stock ...at the moment... will update when it changes slightly Got a few things to fix on it first - windows, struts, etc

I owned 2 of these from brand new,a 1993 Jetta 3 GL IN the USA WHich I loved. It was in Montanna Green.

When I moved back to South Africa at the end of 1995,I bought another ,this time a CSX in Dragon Green.

                  They were both outstanding cars.

Thanks for that. Actually has been taken over by the 16 year old to try and keep him out of a V6 Commodore. Previous owner didn't recognise it I believe (hey Robin lol) although I didn't catch up with him. I was in an old beetle. There has been a few mods made to the Vento in the last few months and I am sure there will be a few more to come.... probably at my $ too eg front lip, front indicators / fog lights.
So far changes include clear side indicators, smoiked rear tail lights, badging changed front and rear, getting the gear stick back to normal, suspension lowered with coilovers - front still needs to come down a tad more, mags, low profile tyres.
                          Teenagers are expensive and scary.
