Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC NEWBIE ONLINE, and Need Help with cold air induction!

Hey all, new to the forums and looking forward to getting stuck into some mods now for my 2002 Bora V6 4Motion! I've just bought myself a 2007 Passat V6 4Motion so I can start to fettle our immaculate Bora a little now!

First bit of help I need relates to a cold air intake system that I bought basically exactly the same as this:

99 00 01-05 VW JETTA GOLF GTI VR6 2.8 COLD AIR INTAKE: eBay Motors (item 190457501408 end time Oct-23-10 22:17:04 PDT)

Now for anyone who knows a Bora V6 engine bay, they have a MAF and a massive battery in the path of the pipe, so how could this possibly fit? If anyone has experience fitting a similar kit it would be much appreciated!

    Hi there,
    welcome to the forum.
The Bora is a great car!
As for the CAI, i believe the piping runs around in the same direction as stock, through the MAF, remove the filter box, and then it goes around or under the battery and the pod is down below your passenger side lower front grill.
Other people just have a short section of pipe, and the filter is somewhere near the existing filter box. (i believe this is safer as there isnt as much chance of sucking up water, but may not have the same effect as its sucking in hot air from the engine bay)
Have a look around the Mk4 section and use the search function, I'm sure someone before you has done it.
    Good luck!

      Hi and Welcome (v2.0)

I have a EVO Motorsports CAI on my Bora 4mo, and its exactly as Dylan suggested. It mounts the conical filter in the guard void in front of the left wheel. With regards to water, I have driven through pretty wet weather without a drama. Performance is ever so slight but the sound is worth it! I stayed away from the metal types only , the EVOMS is a 3-4mm thick walled ABS pipe with is pretty good against heatsoak.

        THanks guys

Thanks gents for the help, I think we might be heading in the right direction now! I have seen a couple of the short kits sitting where the old airbox was and it must be a fair bit hotter up there than down near the front headlight. Well I'll start working and keep you updated!
