The top of the day to all... I'm trying to get a '80 Scirocco back up and running and am having problems... This was my daily drive for 22 years, then it got hit - not big time, but enough damage was done that I had to park it, and with the thought that when time came available, fix it and then drive it again... 6 years later I'm trying to do that. Of course the battery was dead, as in knock knock, nobody home - so replaced that. I check to make sure the engine hadn't rusted and locked up - but it turns easily with a 19mm wrench on the crank pully... so I bought a new battery, dropped it in... and was hoping that, yes, I would have to change the oil, probably dump the gas out of the tank (probably would have water in it)... but other than the standard starting a long parked car, I was expecting to have it up and running in a couple of days, or a week at most. It looks like it now has some electrical problems (which it didn't have when parked). When I connect the new battery up - both tail lights come on - the driver side, both the brake and running light filaments are lit; on the passenger side, it looks like the brake light is on. In this state the side marker lights in the back are not on. When I turn the headlights on, the marker lights do come on. When I turn the key to run, I hear a buzz under the dash for about 3 seconds, which then stops, but I don't hear the fuel pump coming on (under the rear seat). When I move the key to the start position, I don't get any new activity - no solinoid click or anything. My question is: given that it was covered while sitting, what's likely gone wrong. I do not see any rust which has formed anywhere; I don't see any animal damage to the visible wiring etc... really scratching my head on this one. Not quit sure where to turn... and would really hate to write it off [after all - it has a 86 fox motor, fat 205x60's dropped 2", big swap bars f/r, stut tower tie bars, short shift kit, external oil cooler... and this was the "S" with all the striping and the air dam in the front etc]
