  • QLD Hi - Purchasing Golf MKV 2.0L TDI this weekend!

    Hi Guys,

I'm Dan I am a bit of a car nut, currently have a highly modified Nissan Skyline R33 my girlfriend and I are looking at purchasing a Golf as a daily driver.

We have put a deposit on one interstate and if all goes well picking it up on Saturday just thought I would make a thread and ask for any advice / tips when it comes to purchasing one of these as I know you guys probably know the things to look for as I would if purchasing another Skyline

The car is an 05 Golf Comfortline 2.0L TDI 85,000kms really looking forward to owning this I have always been a big fan of the golfs especially since the MKV was released! We really wanted either a GTI or a Audi A3 Sportline 2.0T but for us financially right now the diesel is going to be a good choice and the purchase price is a good 8K lower so might be a good stepping stone to a MK6 in the future

Look forward to hearing any buying advice specific to this model so I can give it a good once over before handing over the cash

    Thanks
    Dan

There looks to be lots of tuning options what are the best options?

        Oettinger ecu remap.
Improved air intake and exhuaust seem to be the way to go for these.

Yeah man, you'll get here no dramas. I made it from inner western Sydney to Springwood via Penrith on one tank with four people and a car load of people.

            Welcome mate.

Yeah, these are great cars, as in the engine etc. Great economy, in terms of you don't have to back off in city driving and get 600 to the tank!

We have a Sportline MY07 model in a manual with an intake a rear muffler removal (and other mods) and no chip and it is fantastic (and about to be on the market which is a shame as you may have been interested in it) and after doing 67,000 in it, think it is brilliant. You can check it out here.

            Happy to answer any questions!

what sort of gains are you looking at with the intake a rear muffler removal?

Not keen to make it sound loud as the girlfriend will be driving it day to day

Bluefin it, bang for your buck mate, pretty much the superchips flash in a hand held, only a select few can be tuned with it and the Mk5 fits into this category
                Cheers

I've not run it since the exhaust, but it is much more free revving. The intake did not increase KW, but comparing the dyno plots it really smoothed the curves out.

102KW ATW (after intake) Much smoother plot!

                  103KW ATW (before intake)

The exhaust noise was considered fine (read hardly noticeable) by my little lady and the kids. The intake is a bit menacing, but very enjoyable.

JMAC is right and if I had been intending on keeping the car - I would have done a Bluefin on it.

                  Things to watch/ask for with buying secondhand TDI - MKV;

                  - Does it have Allianz/VW extended warranty coverage
                  - If DSG, has it been serviced at the intervals
                  - Has the car had a decarbonise of the intake (prone to clogging due to crank case venting)
                  - If possible find out what brand diesel was mainly used

That's a great comparison to mine where the only mod is the Oettinger chip and puts out 95.5kw atw. Good to see the difference is sort of worth it.
