Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • WA GTi - Here I come!!

    Hey Everyone,

Just like to introduce my self.

I am thinking very closely at buying a GTi with DSG

    Budget is ~$30k

Anything I should be weary of with a used GTi?

Also, I am not able to find one with Sat Nav already fitted in. So is it possible to fit a genuine in from the dealer? (I believe it is factory installed, so no luck?)

Or even fit another after market stereo (e.g Pioneer)? I suspect I need a fascia kit for the stereo?

Any links on how to get started?

I'm sure I will be able to contribute more once I get started

    Thanks!

    welcome aboard Alpha.

can't advise you, except that its a GTI and not a GTi (thats reserved for suzukis), and some members he will have you nailed to a cross for getting it wrong!! LOL

        Hi Alpha,
Have a good look through the Mk 5 section. I believe the VW Sat nav unit is an RNS510 or something like that from what I've seen on here (in passing).
Pretty sure you can pick them up online and fit yourself
        Cheers

          Hi Alpha,

I'm a new dubber as well. Have you found one yet? If not, I was looking at a Mk5 a couple of weeks back going for 26,500 in Parmelia. PM me if you're interested in the contact, I believe I have his number lying around somewhere. If however you've already found one, good for you Care for a cruise one of these days? Just wanting to meet someone who's also new to veedub as I know 'oh so little' and want to get into the groove of things.. And plus i'm looking for reasons to drive my car out, as i've got a regular workhorse that I use for daily commute to school...

Cheers for that Geoff. Trolling through the forum I have seen the VW sat nav, and I am definitely interested in the genuine product in comparison to others on the market.

              Hey MT_Mk6,

              Cheers for the response.

I haven't found one yet. In fact, I have also been looking at the Nissan 350z

When I do buy one (or when I get time to look xD) I will PM you.

              Thanks

hey Alpha, make sure you look in the Eastern States. the market there is 9 x bigger than WA, so not only is the range better to choose from, also prices are typically $1k or more cheaper.

therefore if you but and roadfreight over, total cost is still about the same, but you typically have a better chance of getting exactly what you want.

I bought my S3 from Qld and didnt even see it first, has an independent inpection done by an Audi specialist

                  Hey Gareth,

Yeah, I initially was looking at purchasing the car from an interstate dealer, however I want to salary package the car, so I am not sure if it is feasible?

                  Cheers

Edit - I think I may also purchase the car at the beginning of next year since it is already near the end of the year, so I hope to buy a newer car.

Gosh, from sport(ish) cars to family sedans, I am also liking the Honda Accord Euro Luxury Navi xD (Budget now <$40k)

Hmmm I am going to have some fun test driving these cars soon =D

my Audi is salary packaged, easy if you have a dealer bought car, just get transport charges included inthe total cost

Thanks for letting me know. I will defiantly take this into consideration.

I first have to get my priorities right though - hot hatch or family sedan =)

Edit - Even considering the Passat. One thing is for sure...I can't get over VW styling
