Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW New Passat wagon owner

Taking delivery of a new 3.2 V6 FSI wagon in a week's time. Just would to know what towbars (genuine and non-genuine) are out there for this model. Do they all require a bumper bar cut for fitting?

    T bars -

    passat Wagon tow bars.

To save you a heap of searching. The ADR approved tow bar is made by best bars in NZ and they will not sell to anybody but VW Aust / NZ. The European tow bars are not ADR compliant.

Price is anywhere from $290 internal VW sell price to $425 list.

The programmed bumper cut out is massive and ugly. By moving the mount point for the 13 pin to 7 pin converter plug the cut out can be reduced to a minimum so that it is barely visible from behind.

I took some photos but cannot work out how to insert them as the're not posted online.

Wiring loom cost me $435 ex gst but goes up to $500 list. The install can entail pulling the body interior trim out completely depending on whether your car has the loom factory fitted from the control module back to the LHS rear wheel arch or not.
