  • ACT Newbie and looking for parts

    Hi there,

My name is Micheal and I just baught a 1976 Golf for $250 and the engine is still running and it will also be able to drive on the road but it last had rego in 2004 and wont pass it because there is one part of the body which has a whole where it rusted through. Apart from that the car is in a good condition.

I Come from South Africa where VW Golfs are the car to tune up etc and I had a 1984 Golf GTi but had to sell it before I came over to Australia. I had it bored out from 1800cc to 2000cc and it never let me down.

Is there anyone who can help me with a shop anywhere in Australia who can help me with any parts when ever I want to order something. Please feel free to give websites url's etc.

    Welcome Michael!

Another Mk1 to be put on the road in Canberra!

Volks Parts mostly do aircooled stuff, but they also have a quite a few Mk1's for wrecking. Have a look at Volksparts_Home You might get lucky!

Otherwise, there are quite a few people here that have stuff for sale. Just depends on what you need.

    Cheers,

I am going to need quite a lot of parts because I want to rebuild the engine completely and do the whole body and interior up. When I am done it is going to look like new which is why I need a shop where I can buy some parts if not all of it new.

But thanks for that. I will try them.

And what did you think when you went to have a look at the car. I thought it was amazing that the car could still start and the car looked amazing apart from the hole in the pilar but that is fixable.

Well considering when we got there the guy told us it hadn't been started in over 3 years so to bear with him while he got it started, even though it started on first kick! not a bad car, the hole in the pillar was a bit of a set back but like you said, can be fixed.

not a bad car for a project car

That is whats going to happen. It is going to be the sickest Golf in the Nations Capital. I already have a guy who can do the paint work. Looking for someone who can do the body work and prep work for painting whom I can help.

Then once thats done, the fun begins because the interior needs a fair bit of attention and then whilst that is going on the engine will get a lot of attention.
