VIC Hello world! Golf R owner (to be)

Hi everyone, my name's Aaron, long time reader, first time poster (obviously!) Though I don't currently drive a VW (booooo), I have a Golf R on order (woooooo!!!) while getting around in my '01 Civic hatch. Hope to be involved in the forum especially as everyone gears up for delivery of their Rs around the end of year! Cheers

What made you chose the R?

I was initially settling on an Impreza RS at the start of the year, but decided to hold off since the the drivetrain was antique and I wasn't too impressed with the feel of the car and circumstances dictated that a new car wasn't required at the time. Jump forward a few months, and with a bit more money to spend there were only two options for me in the hot compact market under the LCT bracket - the GTI or the R. I was going to get a GTI with all the trimmings, but decided to hold off with the R around the corner. Had a look at the R on release day and fell in love with it. The difference in the prices between the GTI I had specced and the R wasn't huge, so I decided to take the plunge! I guess the dealer did warn me about the wait...sigh.

We've had a few ex-subi owners swapping into R's recently.

nice! what's current pricing on the R like mate?

I was lucky to get a ~4k corporate discount, so looking at around $56k...of course depending on model/specs/etc. I think there's a thread with a pricing calculator floating around somewhere...
