Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New R being Created for me soon

Just order a new R - 5 Door DSG, Rising Blue, 19" Wheels (Silver), Leather, MDI, Reversing Camera, Front Tint. Now all I have to do is wait.

To pass the time I will be trawling this site look for reasons to justify my decision and ignore all those opinions that may cause my to question my decision .

Maybe in the process I might learn something about what all the buttons in the cabin are for before I take delivery

    Welcome to the forums mate.

What options did you get and how much was the contract for?
(No signature is showing so we can't tell)

Why did you end up going with the R in the first place?

Ordered the car as per my just added signature below.

The power is addictive and the way it gets it power to the ground is excellent.

I made the mistake of going for a test drive and thought WOW!. I was going to go for a MPS (have driven that as well) so walked down the road to the Mazda dealer for a quick comparative look. Fist impressions on sitting inside the Mazda was....this looks cheap compared to the R. The R gets its power down better, is faster, more economical and it looks a lot classier inside. By the time I got home I had decided to spend the extra money and retire a few months later.

The GTI would have been cheaper but I would have always known that there was a faster Golf out there. Klink must always have the best!

Contract price, on road was $56,365. Not a bad deal I thought. I get to novate through work so the financing cost (once GST is removed) is only $51,465.

Not a bad price for what you got.
Any reason you chose the R over the GTI/S3

S3 - too expensive helped by the Luxury Car tax.

Reason for the R rather than the GTI -I love power and the R has more of it. Plus I really like the idea of the AWD of the R.
