  • NSW 1st post moving from STI to golf "R"

    Well hello guys,

This is my first post. A little over a week ago I sold my WRX STI and have ordered a Golf "R" from Barloworld Volkswagen in Five dock. Got a pretty good deal I thought.

Pretty standard 5 door, DSG in Candy White, only option I got was a sun roof. Now I guess I just wait.

Spent the weekend searching out some better wheels for it. Not a lot to choose from. Seems to be no real place that has a wide range listed on the net. I tend to prefer Black 5 ish spoke smooth lines for ease of cleaning.

Anyway, looking forward to reading on the forum and contributing what I can.

    Hi Chris,

Welcome and congrats on your purchase. Can i ask why you went DSG over the manual in the Golf R?

      Ccoops79,

That is a good question and one I thought long and hard over. I am not a young man, well into my 50's. I have always owned manual cars and borked at the idea of going automatic. I did a fair bit of research into the DSG and did not seem to find any particularly in trenched problems with it. Went for a test drive in both a manual and DSG and found that the DSG was a great compromise. DSG really did do a reasonable job of making you feel like its a manual but had the stop start traffic advantage of an auto (don't like the steering wheel paddles though). The fuel consumption (I am told) is the same across both, not that economy had anything to do with my decision.
