Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Scotland calling.

A big hello from Scotland. I have just signed up to the forum .

My 1.9TDi 115bhp Passat will be celebrating it's 10th birthday next month. I have owned it since new. It is just about to clock up 90,00 miles/144,00km - in the main trouble free. The only major issue has been the front driver's side brake seizing up, which was cured by fitting a replacement brake caliper. The original had corroded, due to a combination of the fact that the car spends a lot of it's life parked some 50 yards from the North Sea, and the amount of salt they spread on the roads here during wintertime.
It takes me on my daily commute of 40 miles/64Km without fuss, average fuel consumption being some 54 miles per gallon (Imperial gallons, that is).

I am in the process of ordering a Tiguan Match 170 bhp TDi, with a manual gearbox (the auto box/diesel engine combination is only available with the 140bhp diesel in the UK). I'm going a bit wild with the extras, leather, cruise control, front fogs, Bi-Xenons, RCD510 with Dynaudio.

I'm keeping the Passat as it is more valuable as a working vehicle, than the £1000 or so I would get as trade-in value (plus, after 10 years I kinda like it).

I'm looking forward to some interesting reading in the forums, and maybe even adding my tuppence worth!
