Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Hi All, I've had my Mk VI GTI for 2 months and have referred to the forum on many occasions already to learn about the features - much easier tha looking up the manual which details so many options which may not be available on the AUS models that it becomes confusing / misleading.

Best bits: Manual transmission, unbelievable handling, heated seats (winter in Melbourne and no garage)
Worst bits: dealer fit reverse sensors (beep so much you wouldn't know what the hell they're sensing), not being able to drive it on the open road enough, Speed cameras!
Next steps: hoping that Camberwell VW will be able to activate dial staging and static cornering lights. Maybe a VW drive day?

Thanks for all the great info on the forum - will be a regular visitor if only an infrequent poster from now on.

"Next steps: hoping that Camberwell VW will be able to activate dial staging and static cornering lights."

      Hi & welcome.
      Not sure about dial staging?
But they definitely wont activate static cornering lights (assume you have halogen and not zenon headlights?)
I brought from them too and had asked for this, but after they contacted VWA, they told me that the GTI fog lights
dont meet Aust. standards due to the light spread for this feature to be activated, they are fine as fog lights though.
This is not the case with other Golf's (if fitted with fog light option, they are usually activated pre delivery).
Only way you can do this is aftermarket, theres already a thread on this forum that will interest you on this subject.

I also have dealer fitted front & rear sensors (Motorone) and had motorone look at these twice now.
First time was because they wired them in to be on constantly, doh! as you only have rear ones you may not have the
LED display? I have this with the front ones and every time I drove into the garage and turned the ignition off the
LED display would still be lit up like a xmas tree, so had to manually turn them off till they re wired them.
Second time was to recheck distances, got the rear ones adjusted.

The sensitivity level on your sensors may be set too high, which will cause them to beep at everything.
If they are motorone, I know the sensitivity can be adjusted (as probably all can be), would be giving them a call
      if I was you.
If you need any more info, happy for you to PM me, had my GTI for 2 mths also

Thanks for the reply GTI Mk6 - very informative!

Dial staging is when the needles flick on start-up - I'd never heard of it before either until I read it on Watercooled, but I thought "if they have the VCDS out to sort out the cornering lights, then they might as well have a go at the dials as well..."

Sounds like that might be a bit hard for CVW as well though - we'll see, obviously not a deal breaker for me.

Just one question with regards to the sensor adjustemnt - did you enquire at CVW first (I had mine fitted before the car was delivered), or did you go straight to Motorone? I don't even know whose product I have, but I guess I have the same as yours.

I've been away from home for a week now with a week to go and I miss driving the car like crazy!
