  • MK6 GTI broken after 1 day!

    Hi All,

Firstly; great forum people keep it up.

So I picked up my new Mk6 GTI yesterday from Peninsula VW, (5d manual red + sunroof) and 10 kms down the road the engine waring light comes on.

I took it straight back to the dealer and they said it is a "Fuel system error, fuel trim too rich". They reset the error and said it was good to go.

Then I drove home (which is 50kms away) and the warning light is back on.Not Happy Jan.

I spoke to the dealer and voiced my concerns. The result is I will take the car back tomorrow and pick up a loan car while they sort out the problem.

This has taken the shine off my first new car experience.

Could just be a faulty injector, fueling DTC's are the most common fault there is and thats irrelevant of manufacturer even the mighty VW brand is subject to this, but that aint gonna make you feel any better I guess, especially when it's your first new car. I'm sure the dealer will sort it out, chances are they will be just as serious about getting to the bottom of it as you are.

Not to long ago temp sensors in the DSG of Golf GTi, some of the Jetta and Eos were failing, the good thing is VW recalled 13,500 cars because of the faulty temp sensor. Now, it was only a few hundred cars that had this problem, so good on VW for acting on it, basically the temp would rise in the gearbox through normal operation then the sensor would read a certain temp, say 56.c and at that certain fixed point it would reach (can't remember what it was, but somewhere are 56-57.c from memory ) the temp sensor would fail and suddenly and read -20.c and it was instantly then the box would start doing dodgy things like dropping into neutral or failing completely.

VW are pretty good and thorough at fixing their problems.

        hi mate
maybe abit stupid question, but what tupe of fuel did you fill up and where?
just guessing...it could be the bad fuel.
        Cheers

I dont think he ever got to fill it up as it reads as if he'd just picked the car up and straight away had the problem.

Really sorry to hear that mate. Not a good start but I have a mate who has a Tiguan that did a similar thing after about an hour (not sure if it was the same problem of course) but it got sorted quickly and he hasn't had a problem again.

                Hey guys,

Your right I didn't even get a chance to put fuel in it. It did cross my mind that low grade fuel may have caused this.

VW gave me a new Eos (DSG diesel ) to get about in while they fix my GTI. Thats not too bad of them, I was expecting a polo or similar. Actually I was hoping they would throw me the keys to the Golf R that they have sitting in the lot!!!

I tell you there is plenty of engineering involved with the EOS hard top convertible, I would hate to own one thats 5+ years old when things start to go wrong.

I'll keep you posted on how it all goes.
